Do think all drugs should be decriminalized?

The majority of people in jail are in there for drug related charges. I don't feel that legalizing drugs would make it more common to use. If we spent less money on keeping people in prison and more money on educating children of the consequences of drugs and on rehabilitation for drug addictions I think our money might be better spent. 
In my city they got completely rid of the drug education program D.A.R.E. I think it was an important and useful program and its a shame they go rid of it. What are your opinions?

Just something to consider alongside this...

Prisons are increasingly being owned and run by private corporations that receive gov't contracts to maintain them. Thus, it is very profitable to them to have large prison populations. Of course, it is our taxes that go toward paying these prison contracts for for-profit corporate-run prisons. Did I mention that they also lobby heavily for more stringent drug laws? So, it seems to me that locking up people for personal drug-use offenses is only enrichening the corporations that run gov't-contracted prisons and those gov't officials to whom their lobbies contribute.

Please don't underestimate how much influence corporate interests have on our modern values and opinions on social issues.

I believe all drugs given to us by 
 Mother Nature should be decriminalized. I think meth and drugs of that nature maybe shouldn't be but who am I to say? I definitely believe cannabis should be decriminalized, not legalized. But we should also have dispensaries available, idk if that could happen if it was only decriminalized though. Maybe the government should worry more about the homeless and the starving children in America than what I am putting in my body...

I went to D.A.R.E. And I still ended up smoking cigarettes, and drinking. Honestly the class was fun, but it really was useless. If they continued it past elementary school, it might have made a difference. Should ALL drugs be legal. NO!! I don't know about you, but meth and things like that should never be legal. Shrooms are a plant o guess, should that be legal? Uh no. Just because it's naturally grown, doesn't make it better. Alcohol was once illegal. Soooooo, I honestly can't see the point to those statements. Should pot be made legal, sure, why not. But is it for everyone? No. The same as alcohol isn't for everyone, or tabacco. This is my rambling opinion

I can't belie some people said all drugs should be legal. Anyone who doesn't think heroin and meth are extremely dangerous is nuts. You can't force an addict to be sober but you can put them in jail so at least they are away from others. Most people who are in prision for drugs have also been arrested for other offenses.

Absolutely not. Drugs are awful, they should be illegal and people who use/abuse/sell/etc should face legal consequences

If you do some research in countries where drugs are legal you'll see that the governments are actually putting money towards helping the addicts. Imprisoning them does nothing as you can get any drug you want within the penitentiary. Even those who enter prison for other offenses who've never tried illegal narcotics are likely to leave as addicts.

Take the Prohibition as an example; what happened when they made alcohol illegal? It became an underground trade, crime mobs developed and became rich and powerful and more people ended up drinking than before.

Look at the cartels. If you took the money and profit out of narcotics by legalizing, regulating and taxing the trade it would take a lot of money out of the pockets of the cartels.

I'm not saying I support doing drugs, I hate them. I hate cigarettes, prescription narcotics and alcohol abuse too. But these are all things that will be abused whether they are legal or not. Throwing people in prison over minor drug offenses and allowing those who have committed vehicular homicide to go free makes ZERO sense! But I'm sure that those who support throwing more people in prison don't even know what the prison industrial complex is and what the ramifications are for our future and the future of our children.

We should be helping addicts, what we are doing currently is not and has not ever worked. The definition of insanity is repeating the same actions over and over again and expecting different results.

Whatever, hopefully the coming generations are more enlightened and find a better solution to this problem.

To be honest with you whatever you learn your child they will experiment with solvent/drug/alcohol use, so it is good if this programme and advice is given to children and young adults. But it will not stop them. X

I'm not sure how effective the D.A.R.E. program really is... I went through it 9 years ago, and all I remember is "drugs and alcohol are bad." But by junior year in highschool just about everyone I knew had smoked weed at least once and most kids smoked regularly. But that's just my experience, I haven't looked up data on its effectiveness or anything.
