I Have A Hospital Grade Medela Pump That WIC Let Me Have And It Was Brand New. My Problem Is That Every Time I Pump I Only Get One Ounce Out Of Each Breast And I'm Still Full But Nothing Comes Out.. Why?

Might be letdown. Sometimes I get two ounces, sometimes I get a sixteenth of an ounce. If I let baby nurse while I pump, I get more. If I'm happy while I pump, I get more. If I'm smiling at baby while I pump I get more. If i just got yelled at I get less. If I use my hands and manually express milk I get more.

Answer

It takes time for your body to adjust to pumping. If your baby is brand new you won't be producing tons. Did you try adjusting the suction? Try heat on your breasts before or during pumping, massage your breast while pumping. When I started pumping my baby was 2 weeks I pumped 1 to 1.5 ounces. My baby is nearly 4 months now I pump 5 to 9 ounces. If you aren't relaxed you get less. Keep your baby nearby it helps.
