help! pregnancy test

Hey everyone I'm just wondering if a pregnancy can show negitive result but actually be pregnant. I took a test yesterday and it was negitive. my period is due tomorrow usually I have symptoms by now but I haven't had any. Could there be a chance I may of taken it abit early? And possibly be pregnant?
