Testing CM

Hi everyone,

I'm new to all of this and was quite alarmed by the suggestion I should insert my finger to test for CM!!! I'm not that keen on that approach and wonder what tips or advice others can give on good ways to test and when is best to test without having to use my finger?

A cotton bud maybe?!?!
