The best description I ever heard was to think of it as an open wound. It's a big risk of infection since you aren't closed up down there. That is what they are checking for at your 6 week appointment. Why don't you try doing something besides penetrating sex.

I did. I had cramping, but doc said its fine for me to have sex.

I had sex at 5 weeks and I was fine. The first couple times hurt though so just go slow.
