don't want to be checked for dilation

I don't want to be checked for dilation til I'm in labor. i feel like its completely pointless. baby will come when he's ready. plus i had to be checked at 28 weeks to rule out preterm labor and it was the most uncomfortable thing ever. definitely wont be doing that again. im just wondering if there's a medical reason doctors check dilation before labor. im 32 weeks and I've been dreading my 36 week appointment for this reason.
