Has anyone ever requested to be induced before 40 weeks? After 38 weeks, obviously. I understand why the baby should be kept inside the mother as late as possible. I know all the details on that. I am just curious!

I asked with my first pregnancy and the doc said yes. I was induced a week early. Baby was fine. 7lbs 6oz

You can always ask...the worst hey can say is no.
A lot of doctors will probably want to wait, especially if this is your first.

If you can avoid being induced, that's better. I was induced and labor was so intense and my doctor said that it's a lot harder on the body because it wasn't ready.

But certainly no harm in asking

I asked with my first due to living so far from the hospital. Was scheduled but went in a day early due to blood pressure. Request it with #2, told yes but won't schedule till 36weeks. Might have to go in a week or two earlier this time tho due to developing preeclampsia 😔 I find out Thursday if she will be ok to stay in for another few weeks or not....

Where I live, they'll consider elective induction at 39 weeks IF you've already progressed on your own. Look up "bishops score" that's how they guage whether you'll be a good candidate for inducement.

You can ask but unless you have a strong reason, it's better not to.
If your body is not ready, labor can be very difficult with induction. Now at 38 weeks, you maybe already having some labor signs so induction may fast forward them but I know many doctors advise to wait till 39th week because that 38-39 is important for lung development.

I would say if it isn't necessary because of health reasons for you or the baby then you should just wait. I had to get induced with my first because she was poorly and it was horrible. I was in hospital for a week and nothing would happen. I was on my own alot just waiting. I was 1cm for nearly a week and they broke my waters and then I had a bad reaction to the induction drip and had a contraction for half an hour that wouldn't go away and had to have an epidural... I'm so excited about doing it normally this time.

What are your reasons for wanting it just curious.
