baby hates cars

My son is 7 weeks old and hates being in the car. Really sucks because we live 1.5 hours from my family and 3 hours from our best friends. Today he cried the last 30 minutes of the trip to my mom's and absolutely screamed the first 45 minutes home until he finally fell asleep. So stressful and exhausting for my SO and me. He's always just eaten and changed before we leave. We try to put him in asleep but he wakes up pretty quick. Anybody else's LO hate being in the car too? Any tips for making this easier? Will it get better as he gets older?
