nipple pain..so worried about thrush...😳

So I'm having incredibly painful nippl es. I'm mostly a pumper because of baby being in NICU for first week. We go back and forth with breast feeding depending on pain level. I'm thinking my son has a bad latch...well over last couple of days I've noticed my nipple is pink and almost white sometimes especially after pumping. And today they just won't stop hurting. We did do a lot of actual breast feeding yesterday...Had some sharp pains in my breast when they get full..mostly but the nipple pain does not subside. I'm so worried its thrush but there's nothing in baby's mouth and besides my nipple being red and kind of flaky and the sharp occasional pain no other symptoms...what could it be?
