Whose last name does/will your child(ren) have?

My boyfriend wants our daughter to have his last name, but I also want her to have my last name as well. My reasoning is the fact that my dad just died this past August, and this would've been his first grandchild, so I want his name to live on. My boyfriend feels the same way as well about his last name. If we were to get married, I would hyphenate my name as well. My boyfriend thinks this is crazy and "extra".
