Looking for confidence or attention?

Question

A lot of girls are posting selfies of themselves (most of them very attractive) and saying, "I look ugly (when they clearly don't) what do you think? And than all the comments of, "You are gorgeous, now look at my pictures and tell me I'm gorgeous" come piling in. Are you guys tired of seeing these women doing this and do you think they are truly looking for a confident boost or just seeking attention?

I think it honestly depends. Some you can just tell are attention seeking and I'm probably gonna sound like a butthead here but I am told more often than not that I'm a very pretty young lady but I honest to god DO NOT see it, I have very poor confidence when it comes to my face and sometimes my body (recovered anorexic here) and really just hearing others opinions every once in a while whether they're kind or harsh feels like what I need sometimes. There are a few women on here who've really impacted my life simply by telling me my body looks great or my face is beautiful. There have been times when women's kind words on here have kept me from falling back to my old ways (cutting) so please don't be too quick to judge a post like that. They're not all attention seeking.

I can only speak for myself when I say this, but when I was younger I would post pictures on MySpace (don't judge. Lol) with the caption "I look so ugly". It wasn't to get attention, it wasn't fishing for compliments. I really felt that I was ugly. I would put that caption as my way of sort of beating them to the punch. I would, of course, get compliments, but I never believed them. They were just empty words to me. I felt like people felt like they had to say it, but it wasn't necessary to me because it meant nothing to me. I posted the picture because I felt like it was just a good picture of an ugly person. I never looked as good as the other girls. Now, I don't post many pictures of myself. I barely take pictures at all, and if I do I don't put a caption. I say all that to say not everyone that does that is fishing for compliment.
