I have not been to premarital classes, and I'm not religious at all, but I have done couples counseling with my fiancé. It really does help because a lot of times two people in a relationship love each other very much, but just have a hard time communicating with one another in ways that both parties understand. So counseling helps you figure out the best ways to communicate with your partner and gives you valuable tools to cope with daily life in a marriage. No couple is perfect. There are going to be times when you may disagree and one or both of you may not handle it the best way. It is OK to bring coping strategies into your relationship and learn how to communicate better. It's not going to do any harm, in fact it's only going to have a positive affect on your relationship.

I really wanted to do premarital counseling but we ended up getting married 3 months after we got engaged. I know that the counseling would have helped us talk through some things that we came across but we've made it 2 years just fine without it. But if I could go back I would definitely do it!
