How long did it take you to bond with your baby?

I'm 24..first time mom with postpartum depression..curious how long it took other ppd moms to bond with baby and how long it took moms not suffering from ppd to bond with their babies??

It took me a good while. My PPD/PPA started the night before I left the hospital. I had a very hard, grueling labor and no sleep in 4 days, I thought that was the problem but after a week at home I realized it was something much bigger than no sleep and fatigue. I wasn't bonding with my baby at all and it was so frustrating and painful. I was having anxiety attacks daily and bouts of hysterical crying fits. I felt overwhelming doom and I felt as if I'd made the biggest mistake of my life! It was awful. I talked to my OB who got me in with a therapist and put me on medication. Everything is SO MUCH BETTER. it was a very slow process but after a 1 1/2 months I finally began bonding with my son. I see my therapist every week in my home and she helps me with the bonding process along with my anxiety and depression. It seems like there is no light at the end of this, and like you'll never have that unconditional love for your child.. but trust me, you will get there. Take it day by day, and remind yourself that he/she won't be this little for long. I've never loved anything in the entire universe the way I love this little munchkin right here.

It took me a few months with my son before I really got it together. Don't get me wrong I loved him I didn't want to hurt him or anything drastic or get rid of him... But I really didn't want to hold him for a while... I felt so overwhelmed I would just break down I couldn't wait for someone to ask to take him out of my hands.. That was rough to cope with because logically I knew that wasn't right or normal.. I immediately got on medication and that helped  a lot until my mood started to stabilize I didn't really start getting good and bonded until he was almost two months old

I did not have ppd and it took about a month... And the bond is growing stronger every day! Hang in there ❤️❤️

I'm so sorry you're dealing with this 😔. I didn't have ppd but I did have the baby blues where I would start crying out of no where for the first week or two pp. however, my crying was because I didn't want to put my baby down and I was so nervous something would happen. I think I was terrified because I loved him so much so quickly that I wanted to protect him from everything. I bonded during pregnancy but from the moment I laid my eyes on him the bond was intensified.

I'm sorry to hear you are one of the many suffering from that. Fortunately for me I bonded with my baby from the day of finding out I was pregnant. Then when he was born, I couldn't love him more! He is my world!!

I had a case of the baby blues but I don't think I ever had full blown ppd. I hope you have a support system!! While not specifically postpartum I've struggled with depression before and it's so lonely.

I felt like I sort of bonded with my daughter while pregnant, but only to a small extent. It was surreal until I felt her moving and then found out she was a girl, so I could call her by name. I got attached.

With that said, when she was born and they first placed her on me, I just still could not believe this was my baby, I was a mother. It was crazy!! It took a couple months for it not to be strange to say "my daughter" (kind of like when you first get married and start saying "my husband"). For the first 2 weeks the baby blues were pretty bad and I felt totally overwhelmed, a lot of that was sleep deprivation though. I would just lay on the couch and cry. I remember crying and telling my husband I was a bad mother because I didn't feel bonded to her at all. Then one day I woke up and I just felt better and I looked at my baby and got that sense of love everyone talks about. So it took a few weeks, definitely not that instant bond when you first see your baby. At least that's how it was for me.

I'm not going to lie it took me about 3 -4 months to actually be back to somewhat normal.
