Anti-biotic use during first trimester?

My doctor had prescribed me an oral anti-biotic, Clindamycin, to treat an infection I have. Upon doing my research, I have read that there are no controlled clinical studies done ine pregnant women during the first trimester regarding this particular anti-biotic. This worries me. Thus, I am curious if any of you have been treated with this anti-biotic during your first trimester and if there are any complications that arose during and after treatment.

In general, I am also curious on your opinion on anti-biotic use during pregnancy, and if there are any recommendations for herbal alternatives that are safe for use during pregnancy.
