Braxton hicks

So last week at 27 weeks I lost parts of my mucous plug 2 times. And since then I've been having a ton of braxton hicks contractions. They aren't painful but are uncomfortable and sometimes take my breath away .I'm in the middle of switching providers so I haven't been to the doctor yet but hopefully sometime this week. I was wondering if now is a good time to be paying attention to the contractions and start counting or what..I am 28 weeks today
