can't put him down

Ever since my son started teething, he will fall asleep nursing and I'll hold him for a little bit, make sure he's totally knocked out and then go out him in his crib. As soon as he's in the crib he starts whining and sometimes I can settle him just putting my hand on his chest or by his face but most of the time it turns into a full cry and the cycle begins again. He sleeps so well once he's finally settled in the crib but some days this cycle goes on for a few hours. Anyone have ways to transfer baby to crib from being held without waking? I love the cuddles but I end up falling asleep on the couch because I'm not comfortable bringing my son into bed with my heavy sleeping husband.
