Carseat stroller combo or convertible car seat?

My stepdad is buying my stroller and car seat for me. I don't know if my mom is trying to save him money but she wants me to either get a stroller with a car seat attached to it or a convertible car seat. 
My questions are should I get an infant seat and a regular stroller or a stroller and convertible seat

this is just my opinion, but when I did my research on the travel systems the included car seats weren't rated as high for safety as a standalone car seat.

We won't be doing an infant carrier for this baby. We will be starting with a convertible rated for an infant. Our daughter outgrew the carrier by 6 months old and it was a pain in the rear to deal with. The convertible car seat is much more sturdy and easier to deal with. With will keep the bucket in the car just to carry in to restaurants.

Stroller and convertible. It's so much easier and you don't have to buy another car seat for years. It's better for baby to come out of the car seat after vehicle travel than to stay in it for hours.

This is my third child and with my older kids I had the infant car seat and hated it! His time around I got the convertible car seat and we have the Chico stroller with the bassinet and I'm looking forward to it!

You want an infant seat for convenience.  If baby falls asleep in the car and you have to go into store or go home. You have to get baby out of a convertible carseat and likely waking them. If you have an infant seat you just take the whole seat out and it goes with you. We got a travel system. That's the best option imo.

I had a convertible car seat with my first and I ended up buying an infant seat too. She was born in December and it was cold and loading her in and out of the car seat was such a pain especially when she was sleeping! With my second (11 years later) I got both...the infant seat we used until he was around 5-6 months and then we switched him to his convertible seat. It's so much easier when you have the stroller combo too...I could easily just slide his infant seat into his stroller and just go.

Most strollers are 6 months and up if you don't use it with the car seat. Exception from this rule I believe are only the strollers that have bassinet. I had the 3 in 1 car seat too and it is great but also the baby car seat has its good use. Like for example when you go to the doctor and you don't have to carry your baby in your arms, or when you have lots of shopping to do and you need your hands free...

I would go with the convertible seat. This is #3 for me and I wish I would've done it before. We have a ring sling and a lillebaby carrier as well as a stroller. I'm glad I won't have to carry a car seat around this time.
