Problems at the hospital with carseats?

We were recently looking at what kind of carseat we want after a lot of research. We found one we really love and want to get. It's a convertible one so it will last all the way through our babies car seat time, but an employee said that hospitals won't let you take the baby with a convertible seat.. has anyone had any problems with this?! Any help would be great!

Yes you can. The only concern is if your baby is a preemie,and if that's the case it depends on the weight limits on the seat and whether your baby fits in those limits.

That's absolutely not true. Convertible seats that accomodate an infant are completely fine. A hospital cannot prevent you from leaving! Some people are simply uneducated about car seats. There are no laws preventing you from using a convertible car seat.

If it is a seat that is rated for your size baby, I don't see how they could legally stop you. We are going to have a Diono Radian. It goes down to 5 lbs and has an infant insert. It is way sturdier than our Graco infant carrier. We aren't doing the infant carrier this time. We still have it from last time and it isn't expired, so if they give us any crap we will carry him down to the car in the carrier and switch him to the convertible.

Alright, so we had an OB appointment yesterday and we asked my OB, she said she didn't know if they would allow it, we also asked the lady that teaches the classes about carseats and we asked the nurses on the delivery floor and they said they didn't know either and that we have to call someone else but I don't know about that :P we are thinking we will get the convertible carseat and if they won't let us use that one, my husband will go pick up a super cheap bucket seat and then return it after our baby is home and we will use the convertible one we choose.

The hospital I'm delivering at says we have to put baby in the seat and carry him down, but we got a convertible seat so I'm not sure how this is going to work.

Following. We're using infant car seats in my car, but bought convertible ones for my husband's car. I wouldn't think that convertible car seats would be disapproved by the hospital to take your newborn home in, otherwise what's the point of even making convertible car seats? As long as they're accommodating for infant weights.
