Will my son know I'm his mother?

Long story short... my baby boy is due December 9th and I'm gonna be a single mom. I'm still young and not finished with getting my bachelors degree so my parents and I decided it would be best if I stayed with them still instead of moving out. As my due date is getting closer I'm starting to worry if my son will know that I am his mother. My mom keeps telling me that he will view me as his big sister and think that my parents (his grandparents) are his mom and dad. Is this true? Will he think he's my brother? Any other young single moms who still live at home have any advice?

This sounds like something you need to discuss and clear up with your parents... if you raise him to know that you are his mother than of course he will know. They should've respectful of that for both of your sakes. Good luck xx

Your kid will know you're his mother so long as it's enforced. I'd be more worried by your mother making that statement! My mother literally stole my first born by making those kind of seemingly innocent statements. I was blind sided. Just make sure YOU do the parenting and don't allow them the opportunity to make it seem otherwise.

Your parents are the GRANDPARENTS and they need to be informed that's all they will ever be. You need to stand your ground. Just because you are living with them doesn't mean you lose custody of your child.

That's sounds ridiculous to me. If your parents respect the fact that you are his mother and make sure he knows who is who he should have no trouble distinguishing between you and his grandparents.

Uh no. Babies come out knowing their mothers voice and smell. Unless they end up raising the child he wont be confused

I'm also due December 9th, having a boy, a single mom, AND living at home with my parents! My parents know that their role in my sons life is to be his grandparents. I'm the mom and even though my parents will be helping and around they know that I'm his mother. So just talk to your parents and let them know that just because you're living there doesn't mean that they are the parents. I had my son at 16, moved out a year later. He knew who his mom was! We have an amazing bond, he's 5 now and prefers me to anyone else. It's a great feeling. 
Just don't let anyone else muscle in and try to take over or tell you how to parent.

Your mom saying you will fail is just horrible. I would get away from her asap.

Do you plan on allowing your parents to raise your son as theirs? If not I don't see why they would make such a statement. Make sure the relationship is clear to your parents and establish boundaries early on.

Yes. He will know you are his mother so long as you want him to. I was terrified of this when my little guy started daycare at 8 weeks. But there's no question. They know. They know your smell. Your sound. They know you. Unless you choose to not be his mother and are not around at all there's no way. I think it's kinda rude of her to say that. Does she want you to let them raise your son?

no.  He WILL see you as mom,  if that's how you raise him.  Sounds like your parents plan to do all the raising for you & not tell him who mommy is...  If you want to be mom then I would make sure you reiterate to your parents that YOU are mom & they are grandparents.
