Ob/gyn? Midwife?

Can you have both? Or do you just choose one? I have an ob/gyn but I think I want to look into getting a midwife as well...🤔

Pretty sure it would be one or the other. My office has both and I switched from OB care to midwife care at 20 weeks. If something happens during delivery, the midwives are backed by the OBs who can swoop for surgery or whatever is needed.

I have a midwife only unless I medically need a doctor - who she recommends and tells me to go to. I love having a midwife more because what they do, and how you are treated is amazing. (My personal opinion) I've had my midwife since I was 7 weeks.

I kind of have both. Some appointments (the routine, fast ones) I see the midwife. Some I see the OB. My anatomy scan was done by the midwife but the OB discussed the results for me. For birth, midwifes will be following my progress and the OB will be kept updated and will come in when it's time to go.

I had midwives for my previous pregnancy and the same ones for this one. The only time I saw an OB was during my c section. I will have to consult with one around 20 weeks because I plan to vbac.

At my hospital, you have your obstetrician who you see throughout your pregnancy and then midwives are also present for the birth and to assist for the next 4-5 day after birth.
