problems peeing or pooping after C section?

I am 1.5 days post parteum and struggling to pee or poop. I've always had a bit of a shy bladder but when they took out my catheter I could not pee to save my life. I literally tried everything, including walking and sitting in the bathroom for 30 plus minutes and nothing worked!! They finally broke down and reinserted the catheter. I am so nervous because they are going to try to take it out again today and I have to pee. Talk about pressure!! I also haven't pooped and didn't feel the urge to poop until they gave me a stool softener last night. I normally have issues going poop anywhere but my own house but I'm so desperate to go home I would totally go here if I could! Anyone else having these issues?! I'm not sure if it's the pressure/ stage fright or if my organs aren't working properly. Either way we can't go home until I prove I can do these things! Any tips?!?

I had to use a catheter for the first day, but I had a vaginal birth. Had a really hard time peeing even though I knew I had to go. Take all the stool softeners they'll give you, that way it'll just kind of slide out on its own. It can take a couple days especially if you're on opiate pain meds (which I would assume you are after a c section). Good luck, sorry I don't have better advice. It sucks.

THE GAS KILLS YOU INSIDE!! OMG! I was ready to call an ambulance at 3am after being discharged and home for a few days.. it was just gas but was by far the worst pain I've ever felt so please for the sake of your sanity continue eating fiber rich foods.. don't be shy PASS GAS! lol. My so hated me for a few days due to this but I'd do it over and over again if I knew it would've saved me suffering lol! Don't be polite!! Totally not worth it. 😂 Happy healing I'm finally feeling 100 % after 5 weeks.

I had the same thing after my c section.  My nurse took my catheter out too early. Your bladder is very effected by the pain meds in epidural. It is one of last things to "work." Dont beat yourself up over reinsertion of catheter, its totally normal. As for the number too, drink lots of water, keep eating, and try some milk of magnesia (my ob had some for me but i ended up not needing it).  You ll go eventually! If you have hemorrhoids consider getting preparation h wipes.

Just do what you need to survive, ask for help from your nurses or ob. Dont be shy, no symptom is new or too embarassing !

Ok take Colace ( or even peri colace) every day

To pee- let the water run while you sit in the bathroom, another tip: try pouring water on your lady parts from a squirt bottle they give you at the hospital. Also try in the shower!!! All of the above helped me after c section.

For the gas: a nurse at the hospital made me black tea with ginger ale( you boil ginger ale instead of water) it's delicious and somehow helps with gas! Trust me I was in so much pain! I make this tea at home now))

After my c sections they check level of pee I was peeing into that hat looking thing ..with both they just wanted to to know that I farted... I was only giving stool softer with my second one .. and Which I'm Still taking.. and that's because I'm talking iron

Peeing i didnt have a problem. Although i didnt feel like I had to but once i sat down i went. I didn't poop for 5 days after my c-section and that was only because I gave myself an enema because I was in so much pain. If you're taking pain medication that can actually paralyzed the intestines and bowel. I was taken off stool softeners and put on laxatives while taking the pain meds and that made all the difference.  Good luck 💩

I had to take a suppository to poop because I was so uncomfortable. Pooped on the third day and it was so painful :( good luck

I had the same problem. Once the nurse told me that they would have to insert another catheter if I don't pee I started drinking lots of fluids. Also I would used warm water in the spray bottle while sitting on the toilet, that helped get the pee going. This time they told me that I didn't have to poop but just pass gas before I leave. The nurse I had was really nice and wanted to make sure I was able to go. She give me a little orange pill at night and the next day I went (sorry can't remember the name of the medicine). Also, I would just continue to take the stool softener and milk of magnesia. This was my fourth csection and they were all treated differently.

Don't try to poo too long you may get a hemmoroid! I was terrified to poop after mine. After 2 days they gave me a suppository and that helped me. It wasn't as bad as I expected. The pain meds will consipate you so I had to get duc o lax with my script. Only had to take it once since being home!!
