What do you think of circumcising your kid

From where I'm from you do not circumcise your kids no matter what. My husband is American and he wants us to circumcise our kid if we end up having a boy. I actually agree with him because of sanitary reasons but my family would flip if they found out. What are your opinions?

It's a personal decision you and your husband should make together. Circumcision does reduce risk of UTIs, bacterial infections, penial cancer, some issues with foreskin not retracting properly etc, although the difference between a circumcised boy and an uncircumcised boy in these areas are quite small. It's just a small reduction of risk with circumcision. Although, I have been hearing lately of elderly men having trouble with hygiene in this area when they get older and having infections and some needing circumcision later in life, which sounds horrible to me. Bottom line, do what you believe is best for your son and don't let anyone bully you in either direction.

I wouldn't. My 14 year old son isn't circumcised and I found it easy to teach him to keep it clean. It's basic hygiene not rocket science. None of the men in my large family are circumcised and nobody has had a problem. Complications from leaving the foreskin are fortunately not that common (although everyone makes out like they know 100 men who have had difficulty)

Western culture is for some reason bent on doing cosmetic surgery on infant boys. It's largely uncommon in most other parts of the world and yet they don't seem to have landslides of men getting circumcised later in life, nor experiencing loads of medical difficulties with having foreskin.  It's an unnecessary and frankly barbaric practice in my opinion.

My boys are not circumcised. I left that decision to the hubby. My ex wasn't and so didn't want his son. My hubby is circumcised, but opted to not on our son and won't for this next one. A point to be made...Medicaid does not cover this surgery as it is deemed cosmetic now. As long as cleanliness is followed, everything should be fine and the boy can make the decision later (yes that makes it a more complicated procedure.

As for the family... Well.. they would get over it either way. Not like they will be seeing it all the time (diaper changes...).

My husband is not circumcised (not common in Asia where he is from), but he prefers our son be circumcised.  I personally am okay either way.

There aren't sanitary issues if it's cared for and cleaned properly. I have a girl and another girl on the way so I don't have to make this decision, but I'd vote for it. Reason being is I'm a medical assistant and we had to send a boy to surgery, because his got caught on his clothing. The pain I had to witness from that child is something I'd never want to see again.

No. It's a cosmetic procedure and not usually necessary. There are no hygiene issues with an uncircumcised penis. In infants you clean it like you would a finger, just wipe it clean and never force the foreskin back.

Just teach them to keep it clean. My hubby is my first uncircumcised man I was with and I so thank his parents for that. The sex is amazing.

I'm American but live in Norway where it's not common to circumcise. My fiancé will take care of teaching our son how to maintain his peen, which will remain intact.
