BF: lump on side of breast near armpit?!

Question

I've just returned to work and have been pumping during the workday. All of a sudden I noticed my LO having difficulty nursing on one breast and in the shower tonight I felt a lump on that side. I haven't had any issues pumping and get the same amounts of milk as usual? Anyone have an idea what this might be and how to fix it?

Sometimes I get pockets of milk that feel like lumps whenever I am really full or baby doesn't nurse well, and they can get pretty tender. The pump doesn't usually get them out as well, but I found that if I massage the lump it breaks up over a few pumping sessions. Ultimately baby is the best at clearing them though. Gets them right out in one good nursing session.

Huh! Interesting! And I've been nursing for 3 months and never noticed it before. As long as it's not a plugged duct I'm happy! A little extra breast tissue never hurt anyone lol

The area between my left breast and armpit has been swollen my whole pregnancy. My ob said it's extra breast tissue. It hurts sometimes but not all the time. She said even if it goes down it will swell back up if I breastfeed. Sounds like what's happening to you.
