Leave for stay

My boyfriend occasionally shows me no attention and is every distant and when I tell him how it makes me feel he tells me that I'm needy and childish. But I only say something about it when it's been 2-4 hours without a response. I have no problem with not getting texted back when he tells me he is doing something that takes a lot of time but sometimes he will go from texting back really fast to 4 hours without a response what should I do? Or am I over reacting
