Question

When will I get my 1st abdominal US.?
When do the transvaginal US stop.?

Silly questions, I apologize. First time mommy here, one previous MC earlier this year.
7 weeks and 4 days.

The office I worked at(I did ultrasounds) would do transabdominal after 10wks, unless mom was overweight or obese. Fat tissue scatters sound waves, causing images to be grainy & hard to see. Plus it is very uncomfortable to both mom & ultrasound tech to have to push extra hard to get through belly fat to see baby clearly(my most likely torn rotator cuff can attest to that).

Until 10 weeks, transvaginal ultrasounds are best for seeing & measuring heart rate. It also allows us to check the cervix(muscle that holds uterus closed for 9 mos to sustain pregnancy). Since you have had a mc before, they will probably check your cervix more often- which means more tv ultrasounds. It gets better, I promise! Hang in there.

I think every doctor is different, I had my first abdominal ultrasound at 14weeks and the one before that at 10weeks was transvaginal. My doc still does transvaginal sometimes to check the cervix.

I got my first ultrasound at 7weeks+6days at a pregnancy clinic but my OB didn't schedule one until 12weeks
