Birth control with migraines??

Question

I've heard that if you have migraines, birth control can worsen them...my mom started getting migraines after starting birth control,  and two of my aunts got it after birth control but it stopped after they quit.  Anybody out there at risk for migraines but have found a friendly birth control? I just wanna not have kids without suffering 😭

It depends on the type of migraines you have. Usually if you have migraines with auras doctors recommend that you avoid hormonal methods because it can increase your chances of stroke but you can still use a nonhormonal iud. If you don't have auras you can try any method of hormonal birth control (as far as I'm aware). I have migraines without auras and I was on the patch for almost 15 years and I loved it. Birth control helped level out my hormones which in turn helped reduce the frequency I got migraines. I would recommend talking to your doctor to see what they think would be a good fit for you
