Sharing a box sized room with my newborn

Because of the situation I'm in where I left my husband and flew home because he's abusive. I ended up living with my sister who only has an apartment and the room I'm staying in is small but its the biggest room I can stay in out of the options I have.

The government can't give me an accommodation until the baby is born because I'm not a priority and I let them know that I'll be living in a small room with a cot/crib with hardly any space when the baby is here which isn't very ideal but still there's noting they can do.

It just annoys me more how it didn't work out with my husband because we had a 3 bed house in america and now I'm going to be a single mum temporarily living in a box room with my new born that's due in January.

Is it bad of me to be so cramped ? Was I a coward to leave ?
