Because it's awesome but is there some reason it's not preferred over ebf?

Personally I wouldn't want to have to pump that much. My son doesn't like to be put down much so I think it would be hard to pump that often. Pumping once in the morning to build my stash is hard enough most days. It's easier to nurse! Especially if you stay at home. I will be going back to work soon and will have to pump at work and at home. But when I'm home I always nurse, so much easier.

I'm going through this battle right now, as well. Here are perks I can see: -anyone can help with feeding, -if we are out and about, it's easy, -my poor nips get a slight break, -I'll know how much he eats, -I can still host skin to skin bonding time. I think the stash build up will be the hardest...pumping 7 times a day might get difficult, and you can't go a day with less.

Only other thing I can think of is that you don't get the bio-feedback that would change the milk's consistency. That requires baby's saliva to make contact with the nipple. But that's more like "missing a perk" than a true downside.

I imagine it has a lot to do with the bond nursing creates! I definitely prefer nursing my daughter than when she has to have a bottle, and I can tell she prefers nursing too!

With that said... of course it is up to each person to decide what's right for her & baby, and as long as baby is fed that decision is the right one!

And the time, I exclusively pumped for my older kid for a year. Most of the time I felt like I did nothing else and was chained to the pump vs just feeding babe it also costs more money. Breastmilk bags, electricity etc

Some people don't like being attached to the pump all the time. Cleaning the parts gets annoying too. If it works for you go for it!
