Postpartum supplies????

Question

What supplies are essential for postpartum care? I'm trying to stock up now.

Also, how many of the large maxi pads should I buy before? Right now I have 3 packs of 20.  Is that enough?

Padsicles - aloe vera, witch hazel, lavender essential oil on large pads then frozen. They are heavenly for a sore J and bottom. I make several bags before baby is born and have them frozen and ready.

Wet wipes - fragrance free sensitive ones. Great for cleaning up down there.

Squirt bottle from hospital - TAKE IT HOME! It's amazing and great for cleaning a very sore undercarriage!

Always Infinity pads - the giant ones at hospital are great for the first couple of days but after that you don't need giant ones. I also changed my pad every time I used the bathroom to keep things clean and hygienic so I bought several bags.

The chucks from the hospital or buy some - great if you bleed a ton and leak at night. I placed them on my bed at night to keep my sheets clean. Fortunately (or maybe unfortunately) I was up a lot at night with baby so changed my pad enough to not leak.

Nipple cream if you plan to breastfeed.

I bled so much I used adult diapers the first week home. I'd add to the list above of some gel soothing pads for your nips if your nursing. Got them in the nursing section at walmart and they are amazing. And either disposable nursing pads or washable ones. I leaked like crazy once my milk came in and me and baby working on a good nursing relationship.

I go through at least 5 pads daily. I like to feel clean. Also, solercaine if your hospital doesn't give you some. Helps with the burn. Big comfy underwear you don't care if they get ruined. Take as much from the hospital as you can, like ice packs!!!

Buy cautiously. Not everyone bleeds like crazy. I only used the super big pads in the hospital because i didnt bring my own. When i got home, i just used a light pad or panty liner.

I bought two big packs of pads and didn't even use one pack. Everyone is different but I only bled heavily for a few days and then it was so light that I wore party liners. You can always buy more pads if you need them when the time comes. My hospital supplied me with Tucks pads, a numbing spray for my "lady parts" (that was super helpful) and a peri bottle and I took them all home from the hospital with me to use. (In case you don't know, a peri bottle is used to clean yourself off with after you use the restroom instead of wiping because things are too sore/fragile down there for a week or two). My one suggestion, if you plan on breastfeeding, is to have a lot of good, filling snacks on hand because my appetite went through the roof at first and I needed to eat snacks constantly at first.
