I have a family doctor ... but we don't have a paediatrician ... is that weird ? Does he need one ? He's almost 6 months lmao 😂 I feel silly even asking this late in the game

No. Pediatricians are specialists. Where I'm from we don't see specialists unless it's necessary.

I grew up with a pediatrician. While general practitioners are qualified, pediatricians specialize in children.

From someone in healthcare and whose husband is in healthcare, it's better to see a specialist, i look at it this way, a family doc is mediocre at everything but a pediatrician is an expert at one thing. I'd rather take my child to the child expert rather than a doc that practices such a broad spectrum. If your insurance allows you to see a pediatrician I would 100% see one.

My son sees my family doctor. It was easier for me since I already knew the office and loved their hours. It's also nice that when I take him in the doctor asks how I'm doing and addresses any small concerns without needing a visit, and likewise when I go for myself and have a small question about baby.

We only have a family doctor as well. Me my husband and all three of our kids go to him and he has been my doctor since I was a baby! He's great and is definitely qualified. If there is any concern ever he will refer us to a pediatrician.

Nope. My kids don't have pediatricians. We have a gp. She was also my Dr when I was pregnant and would've delivered my daughter if she was on rotation that night. Now she's my general practitioner who also takes care of my kids too.
