Marijuana while pregnant?

What does everyone think of smoking marijuana while pregnant? I've had to cut out all my tramadol for my leg pain (had for 2 years, doctors can't figure out why) and I've smoked a few times and it's made me feel better, but I'm scared! What's everyone's opinions?

I smoked until 28 weeks because I have RA. I'm in CO where it's legal and I talked to my Dr. about it at my first appointment. She had no problems with me smoking but suggested I stop a few weeks in advance of my due date so that it's out of my system when I deliver. I'm 37 weeks now, and had a tox screen a couple weeks ago which was negative so Dr said I won't have to worry about CPS interfering. Baby is perfectly healthy, and in the 95th percentile (hubby is 6'6"), so far I've had no complications, and he's already in perfect position for delivery.

Brain development is well documented to be influenced by marijuana for people under ~21 or so. I wouldn't risk wiring my baby's brain for that kind of stimulus, even though there isn't great causal research to support that notion, just not worth the risk to me.

Also, the possibility of having to deal with CPS is terrifying.

You're obviously going to do what you feel is best for you and baby, but don't be surprised if judgement comes out of the wood-works here.

A lot of people say there's no danger but some hospitals in different states turn you into cys or whatever it's called in other states if it's illegal

Do your research. Legit research.. not just whatever Google turns up. Look for medical journals and studies.

On a side note.. I smoked a bit for each pregnancy. This is number 3. Not alot, mind you, but enough to eat and sleep (a hit or two here and there as I lost 20 lbs from being sick this pregnancy). It helped. If you feel comfortable, talk to your doctor. Also, check and see your doctor and delivering hospitals drug testing policies. Just because its legal in some states, doesn't mean all the laws caught up.

There is no definite research on it,  but it is a natural substance so its safer than Tylenol, I had a actual RN tell me that, BUT in some states they test the baby  when it is born, you would want to have a clean system 3 months before giving birth or u could have DCFS all in your business

If it's not tested, I'm not taking it (or smoking it). I also figure that anything that has such a mental and physical  impact must affect hormones and that kind of imbalance is what ends up having the potential to hurt a fetus.

If it's illegal in your state, I wouldn't touch it with a ten foot pole. If it's legal, I'd stick to edibles or oils, over actual smoking.

I personally wouldn't feel safe doing it only because my sister in law smoked a lot of marijuana everyday while she was pregnant and she had to have emergency c-section 2 months early due to preeclampsia. Yes her daughter made it and is healthy as can be now but what if she just got lucky? Also if you plan on breastfeeding you'd just be passing that on to you're baby.

Talk to your doctor. See what he/she says. Thats what would be best.
