Is marriage that important?

Question

I have been with me SO for over 10 years and we are TTC my second child. Does it really matter if we are legally married?

We live together, I mean it just feels like a piece of paper at this point. 
What do you guys think?

Once you actually get married you realize that it's way more than a piece of paper. Get married or not, it's all your decision.

I have lots of friends who were domestic partners and long term bf/gf - one couple was so for 20 years! And when they did decide to get married, they did feel like it was special and made things even better. Marriage is openly declaring your love for and commitment to one another, and more than anything, they felt like it was fun and a special gift to one another - the legal part was an added benefit too. And they just went to the courthouse! My friend said it wasn't just addressing the elephant in the room - it was celebrating it! Love is joy, so just have fun with it 👍🏾

You may want to consider it for legal reasons especially if there isn't a will in tact. A young lady I know felt the same way and lived with her spouse for years, building several assets with him.  They truly loved each other.  He passed away suddenly and unexpectedly of a heart attach at a young age.  His family staked legal claim on several assets and forced her to move from their home because it was in his name.

Marriage is not important. I am married and still think it is a piece of paper.. it doesn't feel any different than when we were just BF and GF. I love my husband and being married to him, but the paper didn't make a difference.

To me it's so much more than a piece of paper. It was very important to us to be married before we started a family. But it's not that way for everyone. You have to take the time to figure out what's best for you and your partner.

It really depends on the couple. For me and my husband it was important, but we both really wanted to be married. If you guys don't want to, or don't feel the need to, and you are happy with that, then don't worry about it to much.

To some it's just a piece of paper...It kind of is to me but at the same time not. 😅 I want the whole romantic engagement..gesture of love commitment  & at least a small wedding or something special...not bc of the ring or any material things but because I want the  memories...I havent had many good memories...no prom/homecoming/sweet16 or quinceniera../no birthday partys/i didnt go to my graduation ceremony in highschool either...I think for me it would just make me happy.

I'd like to be married to my boyfriend because I feel like it would make things "more proper". We live together and are expecting our first child so the signs of commitment are there but I kind of would like to have a ring on my finger so tha the world would know I'm his. He, however, has been married once before and has no desire to do it again.
