Is my friends husband a scammer?

The Little Mermaid
This is not the first time he's done this. He's ask my husband for money before claiming that his mother had a stroke and he needed money. And now he messaged me on Facebook saying this... but to NOT tell his wife (my friend)
"....not to long ago my parents had a car  accident...they are good thank God..but they had to do a lot of medical test and why not.. they live in Ecuador because they are pastors..their church is too poor so yeah, they a debt of $300-$400 so we don't have that money but I was you know looking for help..Diana told me to don't tell anyone because is personal and you know we don't want to bother anyone...."
I have a feeling that he is lying and it furiates me so much that he thinks my husband and I are stupid enough to fall for his scams. Also, it bothers me even more that he hides stuff from his wife who deserves so much better than this because one time I texted her "I'm sorry to hear about your husbands mothers stroke. Is she feeling better?" And I got no answer. But anyways after receiving the FB message I said "I'm sorry to hear that and we'll keep them in our prayers. I'll also see what I can do money wise." Even though the money thing is a lie cause my husband and I are struggling and we don't have anything to lend. We're still freaking looking for a place to rent..... I think I'm hurting most for my friend because she's an honest and good person. She knew this man only for 5 months before he proposed and then they got married 3 months after. Not that time matters but I don't think she knows him very well yet. End of rant. What do y'all think?
