trip planned to Cancun Mexico-- Zika???

My doctor said it would be fine me to go since I would be 15 weeks then... 
bug spray and long sleeves... 
what do you guys think??

We've had a trip planned to Bali going out Christmas Day so I still would be in the first trimester 
And my doctor categorically said no travel as there is Zika in Indonesia 
So we trying to cancel our trip.
Personally I wouldn't want to take any risk.

I did go spend, kind of a lot, on clothes that have built in bug repellent inside of them and don't smell. I got tops and bottoms for my hubby and I.

I was supposed to leave for Cancun tomorrow. I canceled the trip as soon as I heard my baby's heartbeat. It's just not worth the risk for me. I can't knowingly put my baby in danger. I'd never be able to live with myself if something happened to them.

From what I've read, it doesn't matter how far along you are, if you get Zika, it can still disrupt the development of the brain. The further along you are the less damage it can do, but at this point we just know so little it's hard to tell. The CDC recommends ALL pregnant women or women trying to get pregnant avoid Zika infected areas. If it's just a vacation, I would strongly urge you reschedule your vacation.

If it's really unavoidable or if you are decided you are going no matter what, but spray and long sleeves is definitely a must. PLUS mosquito nets while sleeping. And your hubby needs to be just as careful since he can give you Zika through sex. You must also wear condoms for the rest of your pregnancy to lower this risk.

The biggest problem is just a lack of statistics. We don't know how easy it is to get Zika and what the chances are of it hurting the baby. But when it does hurt the baby, the damage is catastrophic. That's not really a chance I want to take.

That being said, my husband is Mexican and going through the immigration process. There is a very good chance he will HAVE to go to Mexico during my pregnancy to get his green card. Legally he has to and will therefore be opening us up to risk. I've decided I'm going down there with him but will be staying in the higher elevations where the Zika mosquitoes don't live and abiding by all the advice I just gave you.

I went on a cruise to Cozumel this past April and I was 19weeks pregnant. Just when we went to on land I made sure to keep big spray on at all times! Baby and I both are healthy no problems!
