Cervical length and dialation?!?!

Is cervical length the same thing as dilation.  My cervix length was 4cm what does this mean?

It was explained to me, by the nurse who taught my birthing class, like this: Picture your uterus and cervix like a balloon 🎈the round part is uterus where baby is in the gestational sac. The bottom part that gets tied off is your cervix. As you begin effacement/ thinning that part that decends shortens in length until your cervical opening is paper thin. Dilation is the opening getting rounder for baby's head to pass through. When we make the OK symbol with our hands like 👌🏼 its close to three centimeters maybe a little bigger. Full dilation (when it's time to push) is ten centimeters which is the size of an average adult woman's outstretched palm.

It means your cervix has not begun to efface, or thin, yet. It is not the same as dilation

No dilation and length are different. Length is literally how long the cervix is... It shortens before labor. Dilation is how open it is.

A length of 4 cm is good
