Sore gums?!

I'm just shy of 5 weeks pregnant and I've noticed lately my gums and teeth are sensitive and sore. Is this just me?? They also bleed a tiny bit when I brush. Anyone else??

As a soon to be dentist and mom this is called pregnancy gingivitis. The hormones in your body cause increase blood flow to all areas of you body including your gums. If you have calculus or bacteria there your body mounts an even greater response that normal to this perceived threat. Its important to get your teeth cleaned and have a high level of oral health. Poor oral health has been linked to premature birth and low birth weight. Go to your dentist, get your teeth cleaned professionally and floss religiously and it should clear up. Hope this helps.

I haven't experienced it, but my dr mentioned that mild gum disease is somewhat common during pregnancy. Gums are more sensitive bc of hormones, I think. She suggested switching to a soft bristle toothbrush and brushing more often but more gently if this started happening.

My teeth are so sensitive that I don't even want to brush my teeth anymore! It's like I have cavities in all my teeth. I read it could be a side effect of blocked sinuses, which I've had for weeks.

Sore gums?!
