I just started pumping, preparing to go back to work. On my first session I only managed 2 oz pumping after a feeding , and pumping from the 2 breasts. Am wondering if my milk production is low. How many oz you manage from each pumping session? And do you always pump after feedings?

2 oz after a feeding is a great amount! I would suggest saving enough for 1 bottle then having someone offer it to baby while you pump first thing in the morning. Save enough for the next day and freeze the rest for your first day back at work. You get more in the morning and baby will get used to taking the bottle. We started offering a bottle a day before I went back to work and it was a struggle because she didn't know how to drink from a bottle. She finally got it but glad we didn't wait until the day I went back! Some other tips are breast massage while pumping, watching videos of your baby or looking at pictures of the baby while you pump. You can also pump for up to 20 minutes, 30 if you still have milk flowing after that point. And of course make sure you are eating enough and drinking plenty of water. Breastfed babies only need 1-1.25 ozs for every hour they are away from mama.

Pumping is way less effective than breastfeeding. My friend did EBF for a year and she wasn't able to get any milk from pumping. My baby had latching issues and I've been pumping since week 1. In the mornings I can manage 4-6oz/per pump and by the end of the evening is about 3oz. It takes work, and I don't pump enough to feed LO all breastmilk. But you can get your supply up but pumping as much as you can, doing 20-30 minute sessions. I tried all the tricks, oatmeal, Gatorade, seaweed, tea and supplements. I only really noticed a permanent increase with taking 1500+mg of fenugreek after 5 days. I had gone from 8-9oz total a day to now 12-14oz.

Ok, so for the last 24 hours I've been drinking a ton of water, eating about double the amount I was eating the last week, and pumping or expressing manually every four hours. And my milk production has already increased! I plan to start stocking it tomorrow. So here's a question: can I wait a span of 6 hours (putting the bottle in the refrigerator) till I have at least 5oz in a bag to freeze it?

I think 2 oz is pretty average honestly! And I think I read somewhere that anything over 4-6 is considered an oversupply (don't quote me though 😜) but to bring supply up try power pumping and lots of skin to skin. There's a bunch of things on pinterest to read too. Keep up the good work momma! ❤

I barely get an ounce or two after she feeds with the exception of first morning pump after she's been asleep for 8-9hrs and has fed her first HUGE meal of the day i get 4-5 oz. But im fine with that because anything i pump is still above what she's eating, which is a success in my eyes! So over the last few weeks i've still been able to bank a significant amount and of course when i return to work i'll be pumping full meals and then some since she wont be feeding while im at work. DON'T STRESS! I do 1-2 glasses of mothers milk or milkmaid tea a day since I had some production issues while on steroids for PUPPP. I have noticed a difference but that may be because im off them now :)

2oz, especially directly after a feed is actually really good! If your little one is gaining well you are making enough milk, so try not to worry. I pump after feeds, I would recommend you continue to do so especially if still EBF your baby so as not to interfere with meals. If the baby has a somewhat predictable sleeping schedule, you could throw in an extra pumping session when you're sure they won't want to eat. Preferably late night/early morning when your supply will be the best. Try breast massage while pumping, if I pump the side my baby isn't eating while nursing(my little guy typically only nurses one side at a time) I can get more than one letdown which I sometimes can't with the pump alone.
