period cramps... is this normal?

So I'm 19, I've had my period for years and my cramps have seemed to get progressively worse. I have heavy periods so I figured it was just normal to have bad cramps. But recently they are so bad that I'll have to lay down where ever I am and basically die lol I'll end up crying once or twice a day in pain. I told an OBGYN this when they first started getting bad she blew it off and told me it wasn't her job... So now I'm nervous to ask a doctor about it because I get really anxious when people say stupid shit like that to me. I just don't know what to do when it happens and then I feel stupid for going to a stupid Doctor.
