It's completely fine. Especially if they've known each other for years and have been friends longer than you've been dating. My best friend aside from my SO, is a guy. It just takes trust and commitment. Also, there's no way I'd ever date him lol at this point, he's assumed the position of my gay best friend without being gay haha. Friendships are completely fine with the opposite sex. I think if your relationship completely bans that, then someone is too insecure, jealous, or controlling.
