Need answers asap

In 2010 my period was real heavy and in order to lighten it up I had to get on birth control ok got on birth control and stopped in 2011 due to expense. Ever since my period has been light little cramps. Except 2 months ago when my period came on it came real heavy like how it was in high school before birth control. Can somebody tell me what's going on please I really want to know.
