Does basic training change people?

My boyfriend is leaving in a month for almost 5 months & I'm worried he will come back different or find someone to take my place when he's gone. We been together for over a year & our relationship has been rocky lately. Any advice?

My husband is the same loving guy he was before boot camp. If anything me writing him everyday made him MORE lovey.

Didn't change my husband at all. He came home acting a little cocky and confident the first few days but that faded. He didn't become more organized or mature. But he joined when he was 18. It may be different for people joining later in life.

I think it changes for the better and trust me he wouldn't wanna date anybody in the army alot men in the army dont. Just let him know that you love him and give in a little when it comes to arguments just try to makes his last few months enjoyable just don't smother him either. Trust me when he comes back he will only be thinking about his future with you and the military.

I thought the same thing when my husband (at the time we were just dating) went to basic training. If anything, it made him appreciate our relationship even more. It changed him for the better. Remember that you need to be there and be strong for him. It's scary and difficult for him too; he may just not show it.
