Piercings
Super upset. My daughter had her ears pierced 8 months ago. We've been changing her earrings every now and then to change it up with no issues. Her normal pairs are 14 K gold. I saw some cute sterling silver earrings at Claire's and thought it'd be cute to change her earrings from the usual small gold earrings. I changed them Friday. I noticed she started touching her ears a lot on Saturday and Sunday, but because of her frequent ear infections I thought it was another coming on and prepared to see a doctor after the holidays. Today, I realized her earrings were bothering her. I took them off and her piercings were bleeding...She has shown no signs of fever and there was no pus present when I removed her earrings, which I am grateful for. But I feel like the worst mom ever.
The guilt has been overwhelming. I didn't even want her ears pierced in the first place. However, my in laws threatened to take her to get her ears pierced (much like the previous post about the in laws 😡) to let their friend pierce it at home. Which is why we took the jump to get it done professionally. However I take blame for my ignorance and thinking it'd be okay to use something other than hypoallergenic metals 😔
My husband and I have cleaned her ears with alcohol, ear piercing cleaner, and used neosporin for her earrings. We put her normal gold back in because we read somewhere that leaving the piercing out could make the piercing close and leave the infection inside of her ear lobe and make it swell even worse.
Does anyone have any experience with infections? Could it be that she is allergic to silver or possibly nickel, and that my leaving those earrings in for so long made a possible allergic reaction severe? I'm definitely going to the doctor so no worries, but it's 1 AM and I am losing sleep over this. 😔
