Dental xrays?

Is it okay to get an X-ray in your third trimester? I have wisdom teeth coming in and want to get a cleaning done.

Dentists usually wait until after birth for X-rays. It's not worth the risk.

I'm a dental hygienist. I did my bachelors research project on dental X-ray exposure. You get a lot more radiation by standing in the sunshine for 10 minutes than dental X-rays produce. We used a radiation detector for our research and it didn't pick up any radiation at all because it's such a small amount. You're fine to get a cleaning and X-rays. But you're at all concerned- just want until after baby is born :)

Just opt out of the xrays. I am a radiology and computed tomography technologist and have taken many classes including radiation physics, radiation safety, etc. Even if they shield you with lead, xrays still pass through it including the scatter radiation from going through your face. Cells are most sensitive to radiation when going through rapid growth. So it is essential to not expose a fetus to any radiation when at all possible.

You will be fine I have had many x rays at the dentist this pregnancy and a tooth pulled a couple weeks ago and I'm 38 weeks. Just let them know you are pregnant and they will make sure they cover your belly very well
