There are other pain meds to the epidural. Pethidin is very popular, as it relaxes you enough to ease Labour, but you can still feel what's going on. Plus other pain meds make it easier to go home shortly after birth x

I absolutely loved my natural birth- back labor and all. I felt empowered and like it was quicker :)

I've had all 3 completely natural no pain relief at all n was induced with my son. I'm on baby number 4 now n hoping for the same. I think it depends on an individual ladies pain threshold some ladies can endure more pain than others, myself personally wouldn't like to have an epidural due to reading up on possible side affects and risks plus knowing my luck I'd sneeze or something or jump when the needle touched me n end up paralysed lol bit squeamish of the idea of a needle near my spine too 😷 gas an air would be the most I'd opt in for should I need anything xx

I hate the idea of an epidural, last time I did get a shot of morphine and regret it. This time I won't even bother with the morphine if I can help it.

I have had 3 babies without any type of pain medicine and 2 with an epidural. I would never recommend an epidural to anyone. They had to poke me about 18 times with each one and I had spinal headaches for like a month to afterwards. The headaches alone were paralyzing. Still to this day I have back trouble from getting one. I know the idea of having a baby with no pain medicine seems scary. I don't think we realize our bodies were made for it. It was so much simpler without the epidural.

These comments are comforting to know. I want to do it natural because I have chronic nerve pain in my neck and head and I don't want to injure my spine more. I also heard the epidural slows the birth down a bit and I want to have a short birth

I think an epidural helps relax you to make labor faster.  Also, I don't understand why anyone would choose to be in pain.  If epidurals weren't safe, they wouldn't be an option.
