what to believe

So I have liked this guy for a while now, and was supposed to go shopping with him but I didn't. I feel guilty because I really wanted to spend time with him and go shopping but my dilemma is I was warned to stay away from him by a girl he knows. She said he was a dog, and never had a serious girlfriend because he gets close, has sex and leaves her... but I feel it was different between us. I'm not really that experienced, obviously why I'm posting, and my friends aren't helpful and I always feel like a burden talking to them about my relationship drama. I haven't told him I have feelings for him, either.
