Jobs and maternity leave?

Hey everyone, I'm just curious what all of you do for work, and how much maternity leave you will take? Is anyone staying home?

I am in my eighth year teaching elementary school, and I thought I had a plan, but I found out Friday that I am losing my job next year because enrollment is declining. I'm trying not to worry too much, but I don't think anyone is going to hire a pregnant woman who will need maternity leave a few weeks into school year!

So anyway, this topic has been on my mind the past few days as I try not to stress out and hope that everything really does happen for a reason AND that I will understand the reason soon!

I'm a lawyer and I get three months unpaid but can apply for FMLA. I will be going back to work after that and my husband will stay home for a month.

I'm a nanny. The youngest will be starting school, so they won't need me anymore. If we can do it, I will be staying home. Something I've always dreamed of

Will be staying home for at least a year, fortunate enough to do so. Funny enough, my issue is I'm looking for a job RIGHT NOW! I got resigned only a few days before I got my BFP. Some crazy timing. I only have so much time to find something until I start showing!

I work in commercial insurance.  I will take 12 weeks.  If we go full term with our due dates, 12 weeks will put me off through the end of the year.  It will be short term disability and fmla, but it is my first so I don't think 8 weeks will be enough!

I'm a CPA and work for a small accounting/financial firm.  The official handbook says 16 weeks off (unpaid), but with my first I actually took 8 months (he was 8 weeks early and it was just rough).  I live in CA so I will get 8 weeks disability, 6 weeks paid family leave, and then I can use my vacation pay, which will be 4 extra weeks.  So I will be off 4-5 months at least.  Luckily I can work from home if I need to go back earlier.

I am a lawyer in a small office. So we have no "official" policy, but I am expecting pretty generous flexibility according to whatever my husband and I decide is right for our family. I already work a reduced schedule to care for my stepson part of the time. BUT - I was gearing up for a possible career change, and I'm starting to wonder if it is the right time to take on a new challenge. Along these lines, for those of you worrying about your job prospects as the result of your pregnancy, it is against the law (at least in the US) to discriminate against a woman due to her pregnancy. There are some exceptions, but generally most large employers will know this, so don't be discouraged and keep the job search going!

I'm in advertising and I'm hoping to be a stay at home mommy / part time photog maybe? I do a little on the side now so it would be nice to at least have a little extra income. I have always always always wanted to be a sahm though and can't even wait!!
