How do you celebrate birthdays, anniversaries, Valentine's Day and other big dates while your SO is deployed?

Question

This is my first time going through his deployment, so I was wondering how do you celebrate big dates while your spouse is away?

Anniversary or birthday he'll send a gift. I dont send anything because people have a habit of stealing on deployments or he can't really use it.. Spend the day skyping each other if not wair to celebrate when he gets home

Care packages. Look them up on pinterest they're really crafty and cute.

I buy him a gift for when he's home and I send lots of pictures (; haha

I do something fun for myself or with friends. I did a wine and painting class when I turned 28, and spent Christmas in Idaho with my sister. Treat yourself!

We just finished our 6th deployment in 12 years I will usually send him something little a NFL fleece blanket, a flag of his favorite team to hang up, snacks, slippers, I've done a 12 month calendar on walmart.com with pics of our kids, us, dogs etc and you can personalize different dates and such. It depends on where he is when he deploys. But he always get a big gift when he returns to combines bday, anniv, Christmas etc in one.

Skyping with him he will send gifts to me he tells me not to send him anything cause me skyping him is gift enough we will talk all day if he isn't busy he will sing a song to me and rylan and she will kick up a storm and then before we sign off he will say I love you we dont say goodbye we say later cause goodbye is to final for us

I send care package and dirty x rated video  lol j/k. But I send care package with all of there favorite. I His real gift I have at home waiting him to return

Lol you don't. For us, gifts to him were useless because they were going to be left behind. He sent Valentine's flowers but it was sad. Things are different now though with the buildup overseas so communication is often much easier! Use that to celebrate! 
My husband was in Afghanistan in 2010 and I'll never forget the sick feeling On 2 occassions: he called on St. patricks day and I was excited and said Happy St. patricks day babe! And responded "oh, it's already March?" And the second was on Mother's Day and when I told him he had no idea it was even a Sunday and maybe don't tell his mom he called. His totally calls out were 11 in 8.5 months.

I think he only missed Halloween and thanksgiving but I didn't dress up and I spent with family eating turkey. He came back a week before Christmas but it was no fun because we got food poisoning while visit my in laws in miami.

We don't really. Didn't do anything for Valentine's day. He sent me flowers for my birthday. And that's about it. I'd rather wait till he got back. Christmas we send a few gifts but nothing crazy. We both agreed to not make the holidays while he was gone a big thing because then it just makes us more sad that they are gone.
