Do I have a gassy baby? I need help please.

Hi! So my LO is 4 weeks 4 days. For the past week and a half, I believe my baby has been suffering from gas. We are trying the extra burpings, gripe water (which only seems to help for a very short while), all different gas releasing positions... He gets really irritated very quickly, scrunching up his face, bringing his legs up, and this fan happen where he is pissed all of a sudden! He won't sleep for what is about an hour and a half on average, which is not long enough. He will wake up yawning, so I know he is still tired.
He eats on the breast on average about 50 minutes, and when we give him a bottle of BM, he eats 5 full ounces.
I'm frustrated with so much interrupted sleep, I'm about ready to give up BF. If anyone has advice, I will gladly take it.

Do you bicycle his legs and pump them in and out? It helps them pass gas and poop. We do it before every diaper change and my son loves it. It's not a cure-all, but easy to add to the other suggestions.

I have a very pissy little guy. He has a temper on top of being gassy.. I have stopped dairy, because he was fussy, spitting up, and had green mucusy poosw that instantly caused rashes on his butt. Now I am possibly going to have to do away with my coffee intake, because I'm wondering if that's getting him instead. I haven't had dairy in 3 days, but coffee has been active. I think it's a lot to do with their immature guts. I lay my son on his left side when he sleeps and he gets a lot of farts out lol

My baby has gas bad. I BF from the boob in the mornings and day, but evenings I pump and feed him from the bottle. It has helped us so much! I think he takes in extra air while nursing so at night this seems to do the trick! Gripe water never worked for us. Mylecon (sp?) does help

This is so funny after reading these comments BC we literally do all of them. We had 2 bad nights (1 lasted 8 hours, the other 16) before I had had enough. I switched him to alimentum just to make sure it wasn't an allergy, stopped ALL dairy in my diet, give him Gerber Soothe probiotics, gripe water, gas drops (they usually calm him instantly but just for a minute or two), rubbing his stomach in the clockwise or "I love you" formation around his navel, reflexology (rubbing the middle of his foot on certain pressure points), bicycling and pushing his legs to his chest, and lastly-the colic hold while rubbing the pressure points on his lower back. If all of that fails, a swing, car ride, car seat on the washing machine or dryer, etc. might work to calm him down.

I use the Little Remedies gas drops and they work great!

Also, look up the Windi.  The reviews say it works wonders! I bought them to use with my son, but we will only use them as a last resort and haven't tried it yet!

Try infant massage! Do a circular, clockwise motion around the belly button. There's another one, you start below the ribs abs use the side of your hands in a paddle like motion, going to below the belly button. Do the motions 6 to 12 times.

Pumping and bottle feeding for the late feeding before bed has helped us, as a previous poster said I think baby boy gets too much air during this feeding and causes him discomfort. Idk why but my letdown seems super strong at this feeding so he has to gulp to keep up. Now that we pump and bottle feed during the 7:30-8 pm feeding he is doing much better. Also look into taking a probiotic or giving baby one. It helps with gas...

Download the "wonder weeks" app-- best money I've spent. It explains how babies not only go through physical growth spurts but mental ones as well-- called leaps. The app is spot on for what you're going through. At 4 weeks is when your undergoes their first major change. It even lists the signs and what your baby will do during this phase. Aka fussy, fight sleep, want to be with mom all the time. It doesn't necessarily help deal with the problem, but it gives you some insight on why baby is acting this way and it helped me be more patient.
