Is it possible to get an epidural and not need for episiotomy?

I'm FTM and in my country episiotomy is something which is automatically done in almost all hospitals regardless of it's necessary or not. I hope I can avoid it but I also want to get an epidural.

The epidural has nothing to do with the ability of our vagina to stretch enough to to tear or how big your child head is.

That's stupid they cut you for no reason!! My 100lb 5'3 friend gave Vaginal birth to a 9lbs 9oz boy without tearing!!

They have nothing to do with each other. But if you want to avoid a routine episiotomy, you should discuss this with your OB beforehand. It is needed in some cases but many places do not perform routine episiotomies anymore as it was found that natural tearing (if you tear) is better as you only tear as needed and if it's minor than you may not need stiches.
Now if you need one, it's not very bad. I didn't need any pain medicine (they gave me my 1st day in the hospital and I took them without question but 2nd day I told them, I don't feel I need them). I used a hemorrhoid pillow to sit on and sitz baths. It was itchy more than painful but was ok in a week.

I'm not sure I would say it's done as routine in all hospitals. It's usually just with older doctors. The new way of thinking is let mom tear naturally which will reduce the risk of infection and also help the healing process to go quicker. This is something you should discuss with your doctor personally and see what his/her method is. Also, I don't think the epidural reduces/increases the chance of an episiotomy.
