Ae people starting to open gifts after the baby shower?

I've heard from other moms that people are starting to wait to open their gifts until after the shower is over and everyone has left. Enlighten me please! I love this idea but I don't want to come off as rude to my guests if this isn't becoming a normal thing.

The whole point of the shower is the gifts, I think it's rude not to open them in front of those who brought them.

I feel that it would be very rude to wait. Your guests are coming to give you a gift and I'm sure they would love to see the excitement on your face when they open it.

That's like saying I will wait until after Christmas is over to open all my gifts. Very silly and ridiculous in my opinion.

I've never heard of that. To me it would seem rude.. Most people get excited to see your reaction to what they got you/baby.

I feel like I would kill to not have to open all the gifts in front of everyone -- it's awkward for you and boring for everyone else -- but I know that won't be an option! If you feel like you can somehow pull it off, though, go for it!

I opened after. I think that part is awkward and so boring. It also feels like a gift grab to me. I think the point is celebrating a new life not getting presents. We wanted to have a coed shower without games, just a big party to celebrate our expanding family. We threw a backyard cookout with open bar and so many people said t was the best shower they'd been to. Especially the guys - they liked being involved but didn't want to go to any party involving opening baby gifts or playing silly games. And it was fun for us after to open in private and take our time looking at each thing. In the end I'd say do what makes you happiest.

I don't have a super strong feeling either way. I'd prefer to wait to open gifts bc for me I don't like being the center of attention and having everyone's eyes on me. For my kids with their bdays, I've started waiting on gifts till everyone leaves. It seems like the more kids that are there, they want to help open the presents and then it feels like my kids don't get that moment of opening them. My daughter is so sweet that she just sits back and lets everyone else open her gifts.  And also while they are so young, the other kids don't totally understand someone else getting gifts and them not. So for us as a family, it's become more normal to wait on gifts for those type of occasions.  I'd prefer to wait on opening gifts for my baby shower but would also open them if my guests really wanted me to. But I do think it's silly for people to get upset if they don't get to see someone open gifts.

The most recent baby shower I went to was like that! I thought it was great-- I always think the gift opening is super boring. But that shower was all friends of the expecting couple (no older generation). Based on experience, our parents' generation really seems to expect that the gifts will be opened, so I'm probably just going to do that at my shower since there'll be a lot of older women.

The gift opening always takes so long, so I honestly would wait. Another option you could do is open the gift as the people come in. You greet them, talk and if thy have a gift, open it and thank them. I've seen that done a few times as well.

I really didn't want to open gifts at my shower. I went to one where my friend waited until after and it was great.  I find it so boring whenever I go to one, so I didn't want to put my guests through that. However, some family members made some comments and I thought about it.  I definitely think it's the older generation that wants it more, my only grandma (91) was there and mostly older people anyways, so I caved and decided to open them.  But I did it as fast as I could and we also played baby bingo while opening to make it somewhat interactive. Had I waited until after I think I would have enjoyed it more and been able to make a better list of who got what.
